How to Stop Calls from Canadian Online Pharmacy?
I’ve been getting calls from a number in Toronto, but it’s not showing up when I go to the phone company site. It started about 2 weeks ago and now is calling daily, sometimes twice a day. I’m on the do-not-call list… same deal for the other pharmacy numbers that are calling me.
They sure sound like a call center of some sort, and they call multiple times per day. I have nothing to do with any online pharmacy!… but can’t stop these annoying calls!!!
The only number that shows up on our caller ID is Ontario (xxx) xxx xxxx . We have no idea where it’s coming from.
The caller ID just says “Ontario” and then the number is called 3x. No idea what to do about this or how to get them to stop… we now have a cell phone after they won’t stop calling our home number, so when we answer we can’t understand them (we’re not bilingual).
I already filed a complaint with the FCC, as well as my phone provider. I also submitted an online form to the FDA. Nothing to complain of… just NO interest in buying anything from any pharmacy (which is what they want). They’ll probably call and try again tonight!
Can’t figure out how or why this is happening either… it’s not like I’m looking for a prescription drug or anything. … And they’re calling everybody in my family and even our neighbors. We don’t have any prescriptions for anyone… so we have NO reason to contact any pharmacy!
When you do call the numbers back, there is a recording that says that your call could not be completed as dialed.
I’ve been receiving the same calls, multiple times a day; the caller ID just says Ontario – xxx-xxx I have no idea if this is some sort of scam or what… so annoying!
It’s definitely a telemarketing scam!
One of the most common ways to block calls from a particular number, including those from Canadian pharmacies, is to use a call-blocking app on a smartphone. There are many apps available — some for iOS and others for Android. Most of them can be downloaded by searching on Google Play or through Apple’s App Store. Some of these apps will charge monthly fees, while others are free.
Another option is to sign up for Nomorobo, an automated service that blocks robocalls before they ever reach your phone in the first place. As with any system that filters out unwanted phone calls, this method requires some registration beforehand, otherwise you will not fully reap the benefits it has to offer.
Once registered, Nomorobo can be set up on a landline or cellphone. As of this writing, Nomorobo can currently block more than 800 numbers that are known to make robocalls, and is constantly being updated as new numbers are discovered.
Here is how the service works: When a phone call comes in, Nomorobo has your number transferred through its servers, which are in the cloud. It then uses a blacklist of known spammers and robocallers. If it is a recognized number, your call is disconnected on the line and sent to voicemail before you even pick up your phone.
First, you must sign up for Nomorobo service by providing your email address or cellphone number. The company will send you a text message with a link that must be clicked in order to confirm your address. Then you will receive another text message with a registration code, which you then enter on the Nomorobo website. The last step is to download the app for iOS or Android and sign in using your same login information from the Web page.
If you are looking for a free way to block numbers, you can download the Truecaller app. This goes one step further than your normal “block call” feature by identifying who is calling and providing their own contact information. You can then choose to either ignore the call or block it altogether. With Truecaller, you do not need to subscribe or download additional apps. It is available for iOS and Android devices, as well as a Web browser version.
Truecaller was founded in October 2009 by Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam. The company has quickly grown around the world, specifically in Europe where it now boasts of having more than 100 million users. Truecaller’s principal aim is to stop unwanted calls from telemarketers, scammers and robocallers by offering a free blocked caller ID app that works on both Android and iOS devices.
The app will block up to 100 numbers per month, which can be extended to unlimited blocking for $0.99 a month (around P40). Using Truecaller, you can also look up a business name and see their location on a map within the app. Another feature of this blocked caller ID is its ability to search by image.
This means that if there’s an unknown number that keeps calling your cellphone or landline, you can do a reverse lookup using your camera and take a picture of the caller’s number. Truecaller will then be able to identify who that number belongs to.
So what do you do if you’re still getting unwanted calls? Well, there are ways to protect yourself from unsolicited incoming or outgoing calls: it’s just a matter of finding the right strategy for your needs.
While many of these options may not completely stop unwanted phone calls, they can surely help to reduce or eliminate them. Consider giving them a shot next time your phone starts ringing off the hook, and you’re wondering how to make it stop.
Often the only way to stop these calls is to tell the marketers that you are on the do-not-call list and refuse their sales pitch. You can register your name or phone number on both the National Do Not Call Registry and the FTC’s Do Not Call Registry. If you really want to stop those unwanted calls, keep your number off of any donation or charity lists as well.
As much as you may want to block the number, it is illegal in most states for telemarketers to make calls if they are blocked. However, these laws do not tend to apply if you have initiated contact with that organization. So while we give this blocking advice purely from a consumer protection standpoint and not legal advice, there’s always an exception to the rule.
