However, when blackheads around your mouth are deep and infrequent, it can be a sign of a more serious condition called Rosacea. In this post I’ll show you how to treat blackheads around your mouth.

It can be annoying to have blackheads appear on your lips. These bumps can be easily removed with a cotton ball dipped in alcohol. You can also try oil-free lip balms.

Most blackheads are caused by excess oil on the skin’s surface. This extra oil helps block pores, which traps dirt and bacteria inside the pore.


Blackheads around lips are caused by ;

  1. Blocked pores. Blemishes appear when sebum — the oil produced by the skin’s pores — clogs up the opening of the pore. This results in a buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. As the name suggests, blackheads appear black due to the presence of numerous black particles.
  2. Hyperkeratinization of the lip epithelium. In response to inflammation or injury, the upper layer of the skin thins out, which allows keratin to form a plug and block the pore. Over time, this plug can harden, forming a blackhead.
  3. Abnormal accumulation of lipids under the skin.

Natural Home Remedies

Natural Home remedies include lemon juice, milk and honey, egg yolk, mashed potato, cucumber, and tomato are useful to get rid of these blackheads around your mouth.

  1. A mixture of lemon juice, honey, and water is also effective.  The yellow color in lemon juice makes it an ideal treatment for dark spots. And lemon juice has astringent properties that may help cleanse pores.
  2. Honey is a natural moisturizer. It can be mixed with lemon juice to help brighten dark spots and treat dry lips.
  3. Milk is an excellent natural skin lightener. And when mixed with honey, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, it can be used to even out hyperpigmentation.
  4. Washing the face with baking soda will loosen up oil and dry out skin, reducing the appearance of blackheads.

Best Over-the-counter treatments

The most popular Over-the-counter treatments for blackheads on lips include clogging ingredients benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, retinoids, and sulfur.

  1. Benzoyl peroxide is a strong acne medication that can be used to treat blackheads. It may also prevent new ones from forming. However, this antibacterial agent can dry out the lips, so it’s best to use it in combination with another treatment.
  2. Salicylic acid is an effective treatment for both blackheads and whiteheads. Salicylic acid exfoliates the top layer of skin, revealing more healthy tissue below. Nevertheless, salicylic acid alone may not be strong enough to treat larger pores. If you only have blackheads, applying a thin layer of the topical salicylic acid twice a day may help. For larger pores, apply two thin coats of the salicylic acid product Lactic Acid 10% once daily.
  3. Retinoids like tretinoin and retinaldehyde help improve skin texture by reversing the effects of sun damage. They can also lighten dark spots. However, retinoids can take several months to show results, so patients should use them for a minimum of 3 months.
  4. Sulfur is an inexpensive over-the-counter treatment that has mild exfoliating properties. It can lighten blemishes and even out skin tone. Sulfur may also prevent new blackheads from forming. However, prolonged exposure to high levels of sulfur can irritate the skin. So apply sparingly and only when necessary.

Laser treatments

Fractional laser resurfacing is one of the most effective ways to treat lips blackheads. The ablative fractional CO2 laser penetrates the top layer of the skin, removing fine layers of pigment-producing cells without damaging the deeper dermal layers. This helps promote long-term collagen production, which results in a more lifted appearance.

While fractional lasers are proven to eliminate blackheads, they come with drawbacks, including an increased risk of post-treatment bruising and swelling.

Patients usually see results within two to four weeks. However, some people may notice improvements after just one treatment. Most patients need three to 2 treatments to achieve optimal results. Long-term studies have shown that patients experience continued improvement after completing the full series of treatments.

  • It’s called “chapped lips”. And it’s caused by a lack of lip moisture. When lips are dry, they pull in air, creating blackheads. You can prevent this by regularly applying lip balm.
  • Melanin acts as an antioxidant to help prevent sun damage. However, when melanin levels are too high, it can actually block the body’s ability to absorb antioxidants from food. This creates a self-perpetuating cycle that leads to more breakouts.
  • You probably know that charcoal is a great way to eliminate blackheads around your nose. Well, the same is true for your lips. Rubbing charcoal between your lips can help draw out impurities. And you can use a Q-tip or cotton swab to apply it.

Diet can play a role in blackheads. So make sure you’re eating a clean, organic, whole foods diet. Also, avoid junk food and processed snacks. Instead, eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, eggs, and lean proteins.

These foods are packed with antioxidants, which help prevent inflammation and reduce the risk of blackheads.


You probably know that getting enough sleep can help you look and feel better. Sunscreen is a must for preventing sun damage and getting the most out of any lip treatment. Make sure you use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
