Upper stomach ache, loss of appetite, clay colored stools, dark urine, itching, icterus, dry cough, bloody urine, shortness of breath and no or little urination

Before taking this medicine

If you are allergic to Methotrexate generic, you must not try to use it. Methotrexate generic must not be used to treat psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis if you have:

  • Cirrhosis, alcoholism or other liver disease;
  • a blood cell disorder such as anemia or leukopenia
  • a bone marrow disorder; or
  • if you are a nursing mother

You must keep your doctor informed about all your medical conditions like:

  • folate deficiency
  • renal disorder
  • pneumonia or other lung disease
  • stomach ulcers
  • infection
  • taking radiation therapy

FDA pregnancy category X. Methotrexate generic may result in fetal birth defects. Pregnant women must not use Methotrexate generic to treat psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis.Keep your doctor informed about your pregnancy status while taking Methotrexate generic. Both sex partners, if taking Methotrexate generic, must use effective contraception as birth defect may occur by drug usage of either of the partners. Men must continue to use effective contraceptive method for upto 3 months after discontinuing treatment with Methotrexate generic.

Women must continue to use effective contraceptive pills until first menstruation after ending the drug usage.

This drug must not be given to children without doctor’s advice.

Older adults are more prone to having drug side effects.

Methotrexate generic side effects

Symptoms of Methotrexate generic allergy may be shortness of breath, muscle weakness, severe numbness, tingling, hives, swelling of face, throat, lips or tongue, fainting or rash.

Stop taking the drug and seek immediate medical help if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • bloody urine or stools
  • pain or burning sensation while urinating
  • pale skin, fever, lightheadedness, tachycardia
  • lack of concentration
  • chest pain with wheezing, dry cough, shortness of breath with little exertion
  • fever, chills, body aches, symptoms of flu
  • easy bleeding and bruising, purple or red pinpoint patches subcutaneously
  • polydipsia, weakness, vomiting
  • icterus
  • Serious skin reaction like swelling of face, tongue, pale skin, sore throat, burning of eyes, purple or red skin rash that spreads to cause blistering and peeling

Less serious side effects may be:

  • Stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea
  • non healing wounds
  • missed menses
  • blurred vision

What other drugs will affect Methotrexate generic?

There may be several other medicines that may react with Methotrexate generic, so always keep your doctor informed about all your prescriptions. Always seek your doctor’s advice before taking any medication in combination with Methotrexate generic. Some examples are:

  • Azathioprine, leucovorin,phenytoin,
  • Probenecid
  • Theophylline
  • an antibiotic or sulfa drugs
  • Retinol, isotretinoin, tretinoin
  • NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)—like naproxen, ibuprofen, declofenac , celecoxib, indomethacin, meloxicam
  • salicylates such as kaopectate, aspirin, trilisate, Nuprin Backache Caplet, pepto-bismol,KneeRelief, Pamprin Cramp Formula, Tricosal.

The above mentioned list is not exhaustive. You must always keep your doctor informed about all your medications. This includes OTC drugs, herbal products, vitamins and all prescriptions.

What happens if I miss a dose?

What should I avoid?

Methotrexate generic gets excreted into body fluids like vomit, urine, feces, vaginal discharge, and semen. After 48 hours of taking the dose you must avoid getting in contact with your own body fluids, wear protective gloves. Caregivers of the patient must also wear gloves while handling soiled clothes, laundry, trash, cleaning body fluids, changing diapers. Hands must be immediately washed after taking the gloves off. Soiled clothes and laundry must be washed separately.

Pregnant women or those who are trying to conceive must not handle body fluids. Use condoms during sex to avoid contact with body fluids.

Avoid exposure to any type of infection. If you develop signs of infection, you must immediately inform your doctor.

Methotrexate generic may cause skin sensitivity, so if you are taking treatment for psoriasis, avoid exposure to UV rays.

Alcohol must be avoided while using Methotrexate generic.

How should I take Methotrexate generic?
